This virtual class is
an enrichment opportunity for students to grow their skills and knowledge in critical
thinking, problem-solving and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts,
math) fundamentals! This session is part of our Career Adventure series,
where kids can get a taste of some of the world’s most exciting jobs, and work
to solve STEAM challenges related to those careers! In this session, we will learn about what it takes to be
an astronaut, and we will build our own lunar landers that take advantage of
springs and shock absorption to land safely on the lunar surface!
Upon registration, students will be sent a
Zoom meeting link, and also a “scavenger hunt” list of materials that they
should have handy, in order to build or solve the challenge presented in the
class. (These will be items that should be mostly available around home, and
substitutions will be more than fine, if you don’t have all the items.) In the class, we will teach about the career
and its connection to STEAM concepts at an age-appropriate level, then have the
students work on the challenges and present their results to the other
participants. Our classes emphasize learning,
connecting with other students, and positive reinforcement to help students
make the most of this home-based experience!
We look forward to seeing you on
Challenge Island!
