This program is an enrichment opportunity for students to grow their skills and knowledge in critical thinking, problem-solving and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) fundamentals in each class! In this series, we will be visiting Disaster Island, where students will go on an adventure through some of the most famous disasters in history! From the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius to the sinking of the Titanic to the Great San Francisco Earthquake, students will work to solve STEAM challenges related to each disaster. Here are the topics we plan to cover each week, and a couple of the many STEAM topics that each one addresses:

- Week 1: Tribal Spirit Rally at the Boston Molasses Disaster (pressure, polymers)

- Week 2: San Francisco Earthquake (Richter scale, suspension bridges)

- Week 3: Mount Vesuvius Eruption (Ring of Fire, volcanologist)

- Week 4: The Sinking of the Titanic (buoyancy, engineering design)


In this special "elementary school edition", we will go into basic detail regarding the STEAM dimensions and the historical background of each challenge.

The cost of the course includes live instruction by STEAM professionals and also a "treasure chest" materials kit, which will be delivered to your home and provide students with the basic materials to accomplish each of the challenges. When you register for the class, we will send you Zoom links for each session, and also arrange a time window for dropping off the course materials.
