Virtual Girl Scouts / Senior/Ambassador Think
Like an Engineer Journey Workshops / Oct 28 & Nov 4 & 11 / 7:00-8:30 PM Eastern
Challenge Island® partners with Girl Scout councils nationwide, and we also offer fully interactive, hands-on STEAM Girl Scout virtual workshops for girls of all ages - Daisy through Ambassador! This workshop is taught by a certified Challenge Island Owner who is also a Lifetime Girl Scout and a former Girl Scout Council Director. But girls be warned: These are not sit-watch-a-video and do the activity on your own types of classes! These classes are fully interactive with the teacher and the other kids on the call and completely hands-on, just as our in-person classes are. So come join us on our interactive online classes and connect with your troop members and new Girl Scout friends. We have put together a special workshop just for you!
·
* Our whimsical, creativity-based STEM/STEAM curriculum inspires
girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
·
* The Scientific Method / Engineering Design Process is used by girls throughout every challenge
as our cross-curricular island themes extend their learning across multiple
disciplines.
·
* Both left & right sides of the brain are utilized as
innovative, creative thinking is encouraged and celebrated.
·
* Challenges emphasize valuable skills such as communication,
critical & creative thinking, flexibility, leadership, initiative, social
skills, grit, & perseverance.
· * Our
workshops prepare the fun, lively G.I.R.L. of today for the ever-changing
global marketplace of the future.

Senior/Ambassador Think Like an Engineer
Journey Workshops, INCLUDES three 1½-hour workshops
on 3 separate dates.

Mon, Nov 4, 7-8:30 pm EST - Kinetic Sculpture Design Challenge
Mon, Nov 11, 7-8:30 pm EST - Harmless Can Holder Design Challenge
At each workshop session, girls will
use the Engineering Design Process to understand a real-world issue, create a
design build around the topic, and will have the opportunity to show off their go-getter
ingenuity to their fellow Girl Scouts. Girls
are encouraged to wear their sash/vest.
Per GSUSA, we will be following the Senior TLE Journey requirements for a multi-level TLE Journey workshop. Girls will earn the TLE Journey Award for their respective levels.
With participation in all three
Journey workshop sessions, girls complete the entire Journey except for the
Take Action Project which must come from the girls' vision and be implemented
in their community per GSUSA requirements.
The Take Action Project will need to be completed as a Girl Scout troop
or as an individual.
Once registered, we will send you a Materials List which
the Girl Scout can have a scavenger hunt with around the house. Many
to all of the items are things you have in the house. You can gather an
item OR substitute something else.
Cost includes: Three 1½-hour
workshops with 3 separate design build challenges, three materials lists
scavenger hunts, additional printouts as needed, AND a Certificate of
Completion & exclusive Challenge Island patch mailed directly to the Girl
Scout. This does not include the Journey Award.
If you have more than one girl in the same GS level, siblings receive a 50% discount for the same class. Register the first girl and email Renee to register the additional girl.
