Challenge Island® partners with Girl Scout councils nationwide. And we
are now offering hands-on STEAM Girl Scout virtual workshops for girls
of all ages - Daisy through Ambassador. But girls take note: These are
not sit-watch-a-video-and-do-the-activity-on-your-own types of classes!
These workshops are fully interactive with the teacher and the other
kids on the call and completely hands-on, just as our in-person classes
are. Join us on our interactive online workshops and connect with your
troop members and new Girl Scout friends. We have put together a
special workshop just for you!
************************************************************************************************************
GS Juniors will take on the following challenges during the Virtual Think Like an Engineer Journey Workshop:
- Create an Emergency Shelter for Pets Challenge
- Design/Build an Eiffel Paper Tower Challenge
- Construct Earthquake-Safe Hotel Challenge
In this workshop, girls will use the Engineering Design Process to understand real-world
issues, create design builds around the topics, and will have the opportunity to
show off their go-getter ingenuity to their fellow Girl Scouts. Girls are
encouraged to wear their sash/vest.
With participation in
all three Journey challenges, girls complete the entire Journey except
for the Take Action Project which must come from the girls' vision and be
implemented in their community per GS requirements. The Take Action
Project will need to be completed as a Girl Scout troop or as an individual.
Once we receive your registration, we will send you a Materials List from which the Girl Scout can have
a scavenger hunt with around the house.
Many of the items are things you might have already in the house.
You can gather an item OR substitute something else. If you
paid for materials fee, we'll email you with the materials pickup date and
address.
We will also send you a link to join Home Island, Challenge
Island's virtual classroom. If there are siblings that are in the same GS level
in your household, the 2nd child gets a 50% discount.
Note to Parents Outside of San Diego: If you registered 2 weeks or more before
the workshop, we can ship the materials to you. Shipping charges info will be
emailed to you with instructions on how to pay for it. If you registered
less than 2 weeks before the start of the session, you will receive a List of
Materials instead. If you've paid the materials fee, it will be refunded to
you.
A Certificate of Completion & exclusive Challenge Island
patch will be mailed directly to the address on your registration upon completion of all
challenges. This does not include the Journey Award. Please be sure to take photos of
your Girl Scout's builds to share with their Troop Leader. It'll show them what
they've made to earn their badge.
