March 7 – Amazing Pet Emergency Room

Come join us to learn what Veterinarians do to take care of pets with disabilities.  Veterinarians help animals all over the world and animals with disabilities come in all shapes and sizes - from dogs & cats to horses & elephants.  We’ll explore how to become a Veterinarian and other careers with animals.  We will use our creative and critical thinking skills to build wheelchairs for a pet in need. To do this we’ll understand how wheels and axles can help move objects, experiment with different types of wheels, and make design decisions through the Engineering Design Process using our imaginations and creativity.  We will have a fun time helping animals become mobile once again!

At Challenge Island we work in collaborative groups using positive communication and social skills to interact effectively with others throughout the process.  Students will be placed in groups by grade or with those in grades one above or below.

Open to kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Parents should remain at the Great Lakes Children’s Museum, but not in the activity room due to the tight space.
