May 2 – Maniac Monkeys Playground
Come join us on a “trip” to exotic Agra, India! We will explore the history and architecture of the Taj Mahal and learn about one of the city’s current challenges: The many monkeys living in Agra. We’ll look at their problem critically and creatively to design and build an appealing playground in the jungle to encourage the monkeys to leave Agra and move back to their natural habitat. We’ll use the Engineering Process to create a scale model Monkey Playgrounds to present to the City Planners, use artistic and creative skills to make the playground attractive and fun for the monkeys, and make scale models of monkeys to test the playgrounds. Bring your best ideas for playground elements and let’s see them come to life!
At Challenge Island we work in collaborative groups using positive communication and social skills to interact effectively with others throughout the process. Students will be placed in groups by grade or with those in grades one above or below.
Open to kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Parents should remain at the Great Lakes Children’s Museum, but not in the activity room due to the tight space.

Time: 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Location: The Great Lakes Children’s Museum Activity Room
Cost: $10 per child, $7 each additional child. **Register first child, then email Renee Allen to have additional children registered at the lower price.
Minimum: 10 kids needed for the event to run.
